Tanisi Jonell,

I’ve updated this page for you again..

I’m suggesting one of two possible alternate large scale pieces instead of post-traumatic entanglement (Opal). Both would be removed from their stretchers and rolled to ship.

One of these is the new 4 x 5′ storm piece on floral brocade, called post-traumatic garden 6 (pic below).
As you can see it’s adorned with a dissolving chevron and broken record pieces. I haven’t attached the records yet,
so the canvas can be removed from the stretcher and rolled for easier shipping, and the stretcher bars bundled and shipped separately. I will restretch the painting and sew the record pieces on once I arrive (I can do that in the residency apartment, as it is not at all messy, just involves needle & thread. It will only take one or two days).

The other alternate would be copper gathering. I’m resuggesting this piece because I didn’t previously
clarify that the adornments (IE vines, seeds and braids) on post-traumatic garden 3, Pehpehtakwiik 4 and
copper gathering can all be removed for shipping. The vines can be bundled, the braids can be rolled, the seeds are numbered and corded to facilitate reassembly, and all can be packed in separate boxes to ship. This was one of the things I’d wanted to expain when I was thinking we’d be discussing the artwork possibilites and logistics more deeply before a final choice was made, as I’d thought it might inform your choices. Also, I found out that copper gathering won’t be exhibited at the United Nations until next year, so it is fully available. If it were to be shown at McColl and happened to sell, I can provide an alternate piece to the UN.

Since it is too late to print nikihk 3682 and nikihk 3832, I’m also suggesting sending gathering 2772 and/or post-traumatic garden 3 as possible alternates, especially as they can be packed in the same box as the other same scale floral pieces you selected. The vines from post-traumatic garden 3 are already detached and rolled into a compact, lightweight bundle that is easy to box. I love both of these works, too, and it’d be particularly relevant right now to have another of my long-fringed works, as well as one of the larger suggested canvases, in the exhibit (for reasons I’ll explain whenever we speak). Though ultimately of course I respect your decisions in this regard. Post-traumatic garden 3 does require floor space for its trailing vines, so that is obviously a consideration, depending in part on the other works in the show.

9/3/22:

I just finished processing one of the images I took last night of the new hanging sculpture, okihcihtâw 3, and have inlcuded it below, along with okihcihtâw 1 (warrior 1). The hanging circles are small wood discs, each being a tiny abstract painting with pencil lines (like the entangled drawings) and silver washes that shimmer as the discs move.As I mentioned before I’ve run short of time on finishing the other mobile I have in process, okihcihtâw 2 (which larger canvas discs), in time to submit it to you for the exhibition.
Anyway the McColl focus seems to be more on my paintings, which is great.
Just thought I’d share it with you, though, since I have a couple of decent images of it now.

This is an excerpt from the original version of this page shared with McColl on August 10, 2022.
In a later update of the page I’d removed this description, but am re-adding it here.
Wordpress saves all past page versions & page updates, so I have a record of the original version of this page in its entirety:

I also have another 4 x 5′ storm piece on floral brocade in process that will be adorned (if all goes to plan) with
oyster or clam shells made out of cast recycled plastic, spaced evenly across the surface (in the same way as
copper gathering). These cast plastic shells are aligned with my intentions with using the 3D printer at McColl. I was really hoping to have this done in time to be considered for the McColl exhibition, but I’m not there yet..
The painting is mostly done, but I still have to make the shells.
