madame x 42 - Nia Lova digital collage
madame x 42
digital collage 2017 (variable dimensions)

~ with ‘Madame X’ by John Singer Sargent (1883-84), whose image caused a stir when first exhibited because her dress and pose apparently alluded to her sexual autonomy and promiscuity, and her (extinct) thylacine (aka Tasmanian wolf), scarlet macaw and (endangered) Blue Morpho butterflies (one of them on her ipad pro), against one of my photos of a wall with ripped posters in Noho, Manhattan, with the earth emoji, a caduceus from an ancient bestiary (the double snake is a symbol of healing, expansion of knowledge and transformation through the conjugation and/or balancing of polarities such as male/female, yin/yang, physical/spiritual, positive/negative etc), and an op art circle ~
